We are changing with the times. Due to our occupancy maximum load, we do not foresee us being able to host an audience of any size within our theatre. We simply can't make six feet distance between audience members work and justify the cost of staging a live performance.
In response, we reimagined how we make art.
Our stage now has a huge green screen hung on the back wall. And where the audience once sat, there are areas set up for a three-camera shoot.
Our movie crew helps with the day’s shoot. A clapperboard sets up before we roll cameras and sound. And the director shouts action before the filming begins.
To mitigate spread and keep distance, our actors sit in their own stations in the house. They also have a personal area backstage either in the green room or in the room off of the stage. This is where they put on their makeup and costumes are now hung with each actor’s backstage station.
Some of our shows require online rehearsal before we come into the studio. Rehearsal blocking is spaced for distance and sharing of props is minimized. All items and equipment handled by the students is disinfected.
We are no longer singing live for any musical we work on. Singers are prerecorded and the actors lip sync to their own vocal tracks.
Our movies will be pre-recorded and streamed. Patrons will need to purchase a Movie E-Ticket to view from their homes.
KUDOS CT Studios was born out of necessity. We can’t possibly have an audience inside our theatre due to space. But we can have our actors and crew (with limited enrollment). We are still working on the same skills and providing arts enrichment. Now we get to offer even more like acting for the camera and a glimpse of what it takes to make a movie. It was either try this or close our business. So far, it’s pretty cool. Who knows, maybe in the future we will do both!
